What is a termite
The most destructive termite in Eastern PA is the Eastern Subterranean Termite.
This termite is responsible for millions and millions of dollars in wood damage a year.
The eastern subterranean termite is the most common termite in North America and one of NEPA’s major pests.
Eastern subterranean termite colonies consist of three categories:
- Workers -White in appearance, workers are sterile, wingless and measure about 6 mm long. Commonly seen if a nest is breached.
- Soldiers- Wingless and similar in size to workers. Soldiers have enlarged, yellowish heads with distinct long, black, pinching mandibles
- Reproductives (also called alates)-The most commonly seen category of eastern subterranean termite. They measure about 10 to 12 mm long, eastern subterranean termite reproductives have black bodies with grayish, translucent wings.
Some of the most reported Termite damage in Pennsylvania include these cities :
- Wilkes Barre
Early detection is crucial in limiting the scope of a colony’s destructiveness, but it is not easy to do. Homeowners rarely see termites, which lurk in subterranean nests and devour wood from inside walls, but there are ways to detect their presence. If you suspect a Termite infestation in your commercial or residential property, please contact NEPA Pest Control. We can save you thousands of dollars in damage.
