Signs of Fleas in Your Home
Spotting the problem early makes treatment faster and cheaper. Call us if you notice any of these:
- Pets scratching, biting, or developing hot spots and hair loss
- Small dark insects jumping on socks, carpets, or pet bedding
- Flea dirt — black specks that smear red when wet — in pet coats
- Bites around ankles and lower legs, often in clusters
- Fleas appearing in a home after moving in or after a pet sitter
Our Flea Treatment Process
- Step 1
Assessment
We confirm the infestation level and hot zones — pet resting areas, carpets, and upholstered furniture hold the immature stages.
- Step 2
Treatment
An adulticide knocks down biting fleas while an insect growth regulator sterilizes eggs and larvae, breaking the life cycle.
- Step 3
Coordination
Your veterinarian treats the pet on the same day we treat the home — treating one without the other guarantees failure.

How to Identify Fleas — and Why DIY Falls Short
Cat fleas — the species behind nearly every infestation here — are dark brown, an eighth of an inch long, and laterally flat, built to move through fur. A quick test for 'flea dirt': put the black specks from pet bedding on a wet paper towel; if they smear reddish-brown, it is digested blood. Larvae are tiny, pale, and worm-like, living deep in carpet pile where sprays rarely reach — which is why growth regulators, not just adulticides, are essential.
Flea infestations in NEPA peak in the humid weeks of late summer, but the worst cases we see are in homes with no pets at all. Fleas arrive on visiting animals, wildlife denning under porches, or dormant pupae left by a previous owner's pet — pupae can wait months in carpet fibers for the vibration and warmth of a new host. That is why a vacant rental can greet new tenants with an ankle-biting ambush.
The biology explains why flea bombs fail. Only about five percent of a flea population is the biting adults you see; the rest are eggs, larvae, and pupae hidden in carpet, floor cracks, and pet bedding. Killing adults without addressing the immature stages produces a brief lull and then a second wave. Pupae are nearly indestructible by chemicals — the strategy is to force emergence into a treated environment and to sterilize the next generation with growth regulators.
Successful flea control is a coordinated effort: your veterinarian puts pets on an appropriate preventive the same day we treat the interior. Thorough vacuuming before treatment triggers pupae to hatch into the treatment zone, and we provide a preparation checklist covering bedding, floors, and furniture. Most infestations resolve with one treatment plus the natural emergence window; severe cases get a scheduled follow-up at two weeks.
Flea Control — FAQ
I don't have pets — why do I have fleas?
Fleas survive months as pupae in carpets and floor cracks from a previous occupant's pet, or arrive on wildlife under the porch. Activity, warmth, and carbon dioxide from new occupants trigger mass emergence.
Do I need to treat my pets too?
Yes, always — pets are the fleas' preferred host and mobile re-infestation source. Coordinate with your vet so pet treatment happens the same day as the home treatment.
How long until the fleas are gone?
Biting pressure drops within days, but expect some newly emerged fleas for one to two weeks as hidden pupae hatch into the treated environment. The growth regulator prevents them from reproducing.
